    Notes
    • Rodgers, Cliff and Mary (Apperley)
Cliff was born in Whitewood 1 Dec. 1901. He went to St. John's School and farmed his father David Sr.'s farm. He married Mary Apperley 23 Apr. 1923. She was born Nov. 1904 and died 28 Apr. 1930. Mary came from Kipling to the next district to teach school. She was also very talented at both piano and organ. They had four children: James, Wallace, Marjory and Frances who lived 3 days and died Apr. 1930. Cliff now found himself alone with 3 small children after Mary's death. He never remarried. He had a great love for horses and had purchased two mustangs from Alta. He lent them to the first Whitewood rodeo. It had rained all day and night. The horses jumped the fence and he spent all night in the rain looking for them. I Marjory also remember the time a transient had slept in our hay-stack and made coffeee for himself, starting a prairie fire which was heading for our house. My Aunt Ethel and I had to get ready to leave. Luckily the neighbors helped put it out. I remember the air so full of smoke it was hard to breathe.
When Wallace married, Clifford lived with them and enjoyed his grandchildren. When he no longer could farm he enjoyed travelling and reading. He also enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends. He was a school trustee for many years and was active in community affairs. He died of cancer on 3 Nov. 1978. [6]
