Cass County Office of County Commissioners
Walker, Minnesota - March 30, 1904

G.A. Merrill, Esq.,
Owatonna, Minnesota

Dear Sir;

Yours at hand today and will say I am much pleased for your holding the girl. Mrs. Clark has lived in Backus for 4 years and will build her restaurant here. We have a good school here; and I am well satisfied it will be for the best interest for mother and child both. I will vouch for the good care of the child and her schooling; will also give bond if necessary. Mrs. Clark has showed herself worthy of consideration in this matter; her sole aim has been to earn money to redeem her children. I think it would be injust to not let her have her child after the struggle she has made to redeem at least one of them. I don't care to have the child returned for some time and you may take any necessary steps you see fit. I await an early reply.

Respectfully yours,
C.E. Scribner
