Dear Mr. Merrill;

I visited Mary Ellen Clark in the home of Mr. Holten today. She was quite contented tho she has been here only two days. The home is well kept and clean and is regarded as one of the best in the community. While I did not like Mrs. Holten's way of selecting a girl, I think they will give Ellen a good home. She will no doubt have to work as they are workers themselves and grow fat on it, but they are well to do, and can also give her comforts and social standing as she grows older.
