602 Dayton Avenue, St. Paul
August 4, 1905

Superintendent Merrill;

Charles Mullen is a tea and coffee broker. He is well-to-do, at least lives in a good home in a wealthy neighborhood.

I did not see Mr. Mullen, but his wife is young, an ordinary Irish catholic. They have three small children, two of whom go to school. Mrs. Mullen claims to want a girl largely for the purpose of taking the children to school, and after some conversation she agrees to send a girl to school nine months.

She wishes to try Mary Ellen Clark, and would like to take her at once. She asked me to telegraph at their expense to her husband at 180 East 3rd Street, Drake Block, if it would expedite matters any.

I recommend this home.
