Text | On New Year's Day at Elmore Church, the wedding took place of Mr. Frederick Cadle Fowler, son of Mr. William Fowler, Hartpury, to Miss Annie Louise (Dolly) Stone, Backhouse Farm, Elmore. The Rev. Humphris Clark, Vicar of Elmore and the Rev. Talbot Gardiner, Vicar of Hartpury, officiated. The bride and her family and also the bridegroom enjoy the esteem of a very large circle of friends, and there was much interest evinced in the event, and a large congregation was present. The bride's dress was composed of eolienne de soie, the bodice being trimmed with shadow guipure lace, satin, and orange blossom, and the train caught up by a horseshoe of orange blossom. The bouquet which was a gift of the bridegroom, was composed of orchids, lilies of the valley, and chrysanthemums. The bride's only ornament was an Indian silver filigree brooch. The bridesmaids were Miss Flo Pitts and Miss Annie Spry (cousins of the bride), Misses Joyce and Lettice Vick, Betty Orchard and Ethel Davis. The two older bridesmaids' dresses were of Neopolitan violet cashmere, with lace bodice veiled, and the skirt draped with ninon of a darker shade, and trimmed with satin and brilliants. The hats were stretched ninon with silk straw brims and wreathed with violets and pink camelias at one side to match the ribbon on the bouquets. They wore gold brooches, the gift of the bridegroom, and carried bouquests of Parma violets and white flowers. The four younger bridesmaids wore white silk dresses, with wreaths of violets in place of hats. They carried bouquets of Parma violets, and wore gold brooches, the gifts of the bridegroom. Mr. Harry Fowler, the bridegroom's brother, acted as best man, and later in the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fowler left for Chester, en route for Dublin. Their future residence will be Hay, Whitman County, Washington, U.S.A. The bride travelled in a grey costume trimmed with black and white silk and emerald green. She had a white monshon hat underlined with black velvet and trimmed with a black ostrich feather and Quaker bows of emerald green volvet. She also wore black fox furs, the gift of the bridegroom. Several telegrams bearing suitable messages were received during the partaking of the breakfast, together with a cablegram from the Chandler families, Walla Walla, U.S.A. The breakfast was held in the village schoolroom and tastefully laid under the direction of Mr. Hills, butler at Elmore Court. The decorations in the room and the church, also the arch erected at the school, were kindly done under the superintendence of Lady Guise. Among those present were Sir William and Lady Guise, Miss Di and Mr. C. Guise, and Miss Schall. The bride's cake was ornamented with the Union Jack and stars and stripes. The presents were numerous and costly. | |
