MASTERS, Albert "Ab" Lloyd age 85 of Dayton, formerly of Swansea Ontario Canada, passed away Monday, March 20 after courageously battling a lengthy illness. Ab, son of the late Job and Edith (Bolton) Masters, was a Corporal in the Queens Own Rifles (QOR) of the Canadian Army during WWII. This was the only allied regiment to fulfill D-Day objectives. Because of this, he was one of the first solders to descend upon Juno Beach. Once he moved to Dayton, Ab retired from a successful career as a salesman from Rike's in Downtown Dayton. One brother and four sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Juanita (Redmond) Masters, sister Irene Criggall (Masters) of Kettering; 6 children, Thomas Dano and wife Connie of Kettering, only daughter Kathleen Hand and husband Walt of Englewood, sons John Dano and wife Eve of Rockford, Illinois, Mark Dano of Marietta, GA, James Lloyd Masters of Dayton, and Phillip Masters and wife Vanessa of Morriston, FL; 9 grandchildren, Barbara (Mike) Cook, Christine (Gary) Johnson, Michael (fiancé Christina) Hand, Matthew (Brandee) Hand, Amanda (Sean) Holly, Angela Dano, Jonathan Dano, Rachael (Christopher) Lewis, and David (Michelle) Green; 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends and neighbors; and special nephew Bob Durham and his wife Gail and their children Sabrina, Brittany, and Karl of Mississauga, Ontario Canada. A memorial service in Ab's honor will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2006 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church 1060 Salem Ave. by Rev. Gordon Price. Because of his life-long battle with diabetes, it was his wish to donate his body as an anatomical gift to Wright State University Medical Program in hope to allow others to some day find a cure for diabetes. Because of this, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association West Chester Office 8899 Brookside Ave. Suite 102 West Chester, OH 45069 in honor of Ab. Words cannot express the gratitude the family has towards the physicians and staff of Miami Valley Hospital for all of the care and acts of kindness they shared with Ab during his lengthy illness.
