Text | Mr. A. Griffin, of Street A postman for over 40 years, and a well-liked Streetonian, Mr. Arthur Griffin died at his home, 13, Merriman Gardens, Street, on Sunday. He was 80 years of age. Born in Street, he had spent all his working days at the town's Post Office, except for a seven-year period, from 1913 to 1920 at Bridgwater. He retired 20 years ago in 1931. An enthusiastic member of the old Street Brass and Reed Band for many years, Mr. Griffin will also be remembered as a photographer who had a considerable clientele at his home in his younger days. He was also a member of the Unity Club. He had been in indifferent health for the last eight years. The fullest sympathy is felt for Mrs. Maude Griffin (formerly Miss Martin, whom he married in 1905) and for his three sons and one daughter, who are left to mourn their loss. They are Mrs. Leslie Weare, Mr. Martin Griffin, Mr. Aubrey Griffin, and Mr. Ronald Griffin. The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at the Street Cemetery. 16 November 1951 The funeral of Mr. Arthur Griffin, a report of whose death appeared in last week's issue, took place at the Street cemetery on Wednesday week. The Rev. T. A. Williams, minister of the Congregational Church, officiated and the family mourners were: Mrs. D. Weare (daughter); Mr. A. Griffin (son); Mr. and Mrs. M. Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. R. Griffin (sons and daughters-in-law); Mr. and Mrs. S. Griffin, Mrs. W. Griffin (nephew and nieces); Mr. D. Abbot-Willis (grand-nephew); Mr. A. Weare, Miss S. Weare (grandchildren); Mrs. P. Hooper. The following were unable to be present: Mrs. M. Griffin (wife); Mrs. A. Griffin (daughter-in-law); Mr. W. Griffin (nephew); Mrs. E. Abbot-Willis (grand-niece). Floral tributes were sent by: From his sorrowing wife and family, "O love that will not let me go"; the Grand-children; Stan, Em, Len, Doris, Will and Edie; Mr. and Mrs. Hayhoe, Sheila and John; Pamela and John; Mrs. Moore and Lil; Gordon, Gwen, Eva and Doug; G. and R. Parkin; Mr. and Mrs. P. Hooper; Mrs. Webb; Mr. and Mrs. D. Evett and Mrs. Wyatt; the Unity Club. Messrs. G. Holland and Son carried out the funeral arrangements. Mr. L. Weare (son-in-law) and Mr. B. Weare (grandson) were unable to attend. | |
