Text | Ethel (Bundy) Shay, 96, of Rural Route 4, Streator, died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 1992, at Monticello Convalescent Home, Hinsdale. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Elias Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born June 16, 1895, in Streator, she was the daughter of John and Sarah (Evans) Bundy. She married Arthur H. Shay in April 1920. He died Aug. 13, 1947. Surviving are a stepson, Dr. H. Robert Shay, of Austin, Texas; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Mrs. Lincoln) Bundy, of Glen Ellyn; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Lincoln, Edgar, Herbert, Alfred and William Bundy; and sisters, Amy Hicks and Florence Metcalf. A Streator resident most of her life, she resided four years in Cherry, Ill. A member of First Baptist Church, she assisted her husband in his law practice. She was active in her church where she was former Sunday school superintendent, church clerk, historian and auditor. She was pianinst in the youth department, a member of the pulpit committee and was the first president of the Priscilla Club. Founder of the Bundy Foundation which granted scholarships to local students entering the medical field, she was active in the Streatorland Red Cross, was parliamentarian in the King's Daughters and was active in St. Mary's Hospital Gray Ladies. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice. | |
